Perspective

Hey guys and girls,

today's blog is about perspective, recently as with everyone the industry has started to slow down a little, especially as we get closer to Christmas.

Now I had a few cancellations last nigh due to various illnesses and xmas parties so my other half Jamie and I were play fighting with each other to take my mind off any troubles. We had a bit of a biting competition going on at the time and unfortunately for her my bite was a little over the top. Now I've seen this girl happy, sad, annoyed and angry but i have never se this girl cry like this before.

The tears just kept coming and coming, they just seemed to stream from her eyes. Even worse was the quivering bottom lip and the face that just screamed pain, my whole world stopped and my heart broke right there, a silly playfull moment gone wrong had now caused someone i love dearly to experience pain.

Funnily enough in that moment, all issues regarding work had been erased from my brain. Once things had calmed down and i made sure she was ok i returned to the work issue to find some very simple answers.

From all thi i suppose the thing to take away is that we all sometimes get caught up in the thick of thin things and tend to lose our perspective, just remember there is always worse things in life.

That and don' bite your partner too hard, eve when playing

I believe Part 2...

OK guys so here's my response to Dax Moy's I believe challenge, this time coming from his magic hundred blog, the beliefs are now not specific of the fitness industry but to all areas of life.

enjoy...

==> I believe that it's all to easy to fall into negative thinking mode and just like a computer virus it can be an absolute git to get rid of. But given the right tools, the right people, faith and determination to work smarter it is achievable.

==> What ever happens in your life you are always responsible; not directly but at some point you may indirectly be calling those things towards you. Don't deserve that debt, website not selling, business not going well, life going down the pan, love not there. Take a good long hard look back at your actions, words and thoughts over the last 6-12 months, do they scream of someone constantly pushing forward with change or some one who has just accepted what is happening and has now got the negativity virus.

==> On that note, you are always response-able to everything too, that is able to chose your response to anything. Yes bad stuff happens, all the time, it is not nice. We've all had it, you ALWAYS have a choice in how to respond, do you let fear and anger sweep you up or do you decide to choose the higher response of truth, love and joy? One is easy and produces short term results, yet massive amounts of pain; the other initially seems harder, yet long ter becomes so much easier and produces gains that you could only previously dream of!

==> I believe that everyone should have support, look it's very noble going through life alone, yet it's sheer insanity to expect to be able to do it all by your self (unless you're from Krypton, are bullet proof and have a large red S on your chest). As for the martyred heroes people admire, they technically didn't do it alone, 40, 000 followers must show something, if they went through life alone then how did we hear about them?

==> People will ALWAYS say stuff to offend, discourage and bring you down, the trick is to again choose that response of SO WHAT and then do your damndest to surround yourself with people who support and encourage you to grow.

==> Failure never happens, you're just choosing a different path, want to succeed faster, get back on your chosen path.

==> Do not judge, simple one really, one day that may be you on the end of it, show that person the compassion they deserve.

==> Excuses are made all the time, be honest is it a genuine reason or an excuse, we all know the difference, we just don't want to admit it.

==> Hey we all make excuses, even the best of us, don't beat your self up over it, accept it and move on. Same thing with past so called 'mistakes' you have to choose to accept what happened, learn from it and then move on.

==> With that on the subject of thoughts become things, really do they? Sorry but hey positive thinking only will get you so far, remember just as your body is a chain, every thing else is a chain also. one is not more or less important than the other, the trick is to look at how the chain works in relation to each other, fix the broke parts and then progress forward!

==> Based on the chain model I believe in an allopathic model of life, thoughts <-> words <-> actions <-> life <-> universe. Please note the dual direction of the arrows, I don't believe it's just the mind that influence the universe, I also believe that the universe can influence the mind. The chain goes both ways!

Yes this is a spiritual answer to what is happening in your life, i hope you can see the relevance and have enjoyed reading what i believe.

What I Want For 2009

OK guys what follows is from a post from Dax Moy on what I want to happen in 2009 (original post here); it will be my business, life, health, fitness, everything as I believe in the holistic model I will focus on the whole

1. What Do You Want In 2009?

Get my backpain2leanframe site up finished, dusted and selling; ask Jamie to marry me as I feel our relationship is going in the right direction; to develop the possibility of opening a studio with a good friend of mine; to habitually live my EXCELLENCE daily in all areas of my life. I would also like to develop the financial freedom that will allow me to enjoy what i have so i can eventually spend more time being a dad as well as still coaching to as many people as possible; I'd also like to set up the foundations for my idea of producing a new instructor qualification that encompasses UK level 1-4 and possibly even up to degree level.

2. WHY Do You Want Those Things?

I have been a back pain sufferer my self, constantly waking up with a pain that never goes away and some days is beyond describable is agony; I want NO ONE to suffer that if they don't have to, at the very least i will lay the possibility before them.Trust me it bleeping hurts, if i can spare 1 person that pain then so be it! Married, well i have finally found a lady that blew my word to dust, she has been one of the most wonderful, amazing, compassionate and honest people i have ever encountered. She does this not out of any agenda, just simply because that's who she is. From those actions has emerged a new me, one who wants that lady as part of my life and at a fundamental level thinks that it would be a missed opportunity if i didn't!

To open my own place with my friend Kyle is a simple one: who doesn't want to be the master of their own destiny and to influence and change as many lives as possible, what better way but to do it with people who you know like and trust so you can then get people to know like and trust you. The coaching is simple, i think the industry can be a f**king shambles, no one acceptable standard, no one agreeable level, some trainers that are amazing, other that frankly it scares me... If we want to be taken seriously as a profession and as an industry then as Anthony Robbins says we need to raise our game, get the fundamentals sorted to one level, then we can worry about any add on's.

3. What are you willing to do differently to achieve them?

Change how I think, change me beliefs around what I'm doing, even to a fundamental level change my identity around what I'm doing. I also need to accept a few things that I've screwed up in my past both professionally and personally, get over it, stuff happens, now I'm willing to focus on getting the job done. Like any good scientist my approach will be flexible, my result, without compromise.

4. What are you willing to give up?

Old beliefs, old identity, things that hold me back, procrastination, getting bored of not making decisions now. Old friends, hey things happen and sorry but negativity is like a black hole, it sucks the life out of you, I will do his in such a way that iit will not sacrifice my compassion. Rather than abandoning them i will instead become the light to inspire them..

Time, things take time to develop, I also prey that I'll be wise enough to chose the activities that I fill my time with wisely..

5. Who have you shared your dreams with?

This has gone out on my blogs as well as everyone on here, all my friends, clients and work colleagues have been e-mailed the link asking them to comment, scary stuff!!!

6. What's the reward for achieving them?

Time off with my friends and family, they get to see me and i get to see them, all the financial goals allow me to provide for myself, friends and my family, if i don't spend time with them it defeats the object of what i do and why I do it! Plus a holiday round Australia would be nice too! ;)

7. What's the consequence for not achieving your goal?

Not changing or going forwards, letting the same BS attitude creep back into my life and becoming the same person I was a year ago. That [person did some horrible s**te and I DO NOT EVER want to become that again. back pedaling into that well of negativity is a no go; I'd rather die than do that! (yes I feel that strongly)

Also that impending feeling of doom or dread that will be less than i actually think and believe that i am. Sorry i am a good person and am looking to become an "instrument of change" in peoples lives, if i don't at least do my best towards achieving this then that is true failure after all a great man once said "try or try not, do or do not, there is no try" Master Yoda to Luke Skywalker, now go and achieve!

Thanks for reading what has now become a rant rather than a comment, hope you're all still with me.

What I Believe...

Hey guys and welcome to yet another post,

Today's post is in response to a challenge set by a mentor of mine called Dax Moy, his challenge was to post in your blog what you believe with regards to training, exercise or even life in general.

If you want to have a look at the original post it can be found HERE

So following is my response to that:

==> I believe in honesty and transparancy, yes in everything. Now i'll say this is not easy, some times very hard in fact, what you get from it long term though eclipses any short term gain from hiding or telling little white lies. It takes dedication and persistance and a concistant attitude towards the truth, if things aren't going well with your business then be honest; if your back pain still hurts just say; if your not losing as much fat then just say. Now it's not to say that you have to be blunt, nasty and not disregard people's feelings, including yours. You do that and you tend to find that it comes back to bite you in the arse anyway. Having had a lot of stuff happen in my personal life which involved a lot of stuff with my partner Jamie after a very hard period of we have endured and will continue to endure due to the openess and honesty between us

==> Compassion, it is my belief that in an industry that professes to "help" people, it really annoys the f**k out of me (excuse my french), that there are people that have no compassion, no empathy and no patience. For god's sake, people aren't always simple answers, they won't always listen to what you say, yes i do also get frustrated when client's don't take my advice or recommendations but as some one who enjoys coaching people, you realise that as a coach you'll do what ever it takes to help people win. you may change your approach but even if people ignore you that never means you'll stop trying, if so then i'd even say that is not your true passion and that you may wish to re-think what you do.

==> Speaking of the approach something that i like is flexibility, not just the physical kind. I mean that we all have a message to teach and coach, what we all sometimes forget is that there is more than one way to get a message across. A great example quote for this is:

"methods are a many, principles are a few, methods always change, principles never do."

Your message is your principle, your beliefs or your legacy, how you get it across to people is the method, people aren't always the same, develop the flexibility to change your method according to who you're talking to.

==> Caring about people, you're in a customer service based profession and industry, not caring about people and just taking them for a ride is plain wrong, pure and simple!

==> I believe that health and fitness can be both independant of each other and work in conjunction with each other. For example you can have certain yogi's that are incredibly healthy (blood pressure, heart, muscles etc) but are not necesarilly fit (run races, elite performance). On the flip side you can have athletes that are fit but not health at all. It is my belief that for optimal performance you must have clear definitions of what both health and fitness are for you and a clear plan how to achieve and marry up both as they are not mutually exclusive.

==> I believe in giving, pure and simple give and ye shall receive, enough said.

Anyway i hope you enjoy this is part one and I'll put part 2 up later but it's currently 7.20pm and I'm off to watch Harry Potter and snuggle up with the Mrs.

Till next time.

Inspiration

Hey guys continuing on with a theme today's one is inspiration.

Right now the world I have to admit looks bleak and the economy does seem to not show an signs of improving fast. Now during times like this i believe we tend to narrow our focus too much and tend to forget the lessons this should be teaching us and also forget the fact that whatever happens there are people worse off out there.

One such example of a bad situation is the example of Rick and Dick Hoyt, a.k.a Team Hoyt.

Take a moment to watch the video below:

Still got dry eyes? Na i didn't first time either, or the second or third time either. Now here are an example of people who in a potentially dire situation managed to turn it around by simply refusing to participate in what theirs said by deciding to live their reality, not anyone else's.

Simple huh!

So that's it, whatever happens in your life decide to take YOUR path and find YOUR answers live YOUR dreams and achieve YOUR desires.

So whatever you want, decide now to turn it around and accept nothing less than your desired result.

Your figure not what it should be, decide now to  turn it around and seek help from those who know and commit to action.

Business not turning over as predicted, find out why, learn how to change it and then go do it.

Not getting the experience you desire from your goals then ask why and commit to either creating new empowering ones or changing how you achieve the current ones.

And hey in times of doubt remember we all have them, just return here and draw inspiration from Team Hoyt.

Till next time.

Social Support

Hey guys today's blog as it says is about your social network.

I was watching Lord Of The Rings, Return Of The King at the weekend with my other half and it inspired me to write this, especially about the quest of Frodo & Samwise.

"Do you have a friend / friends that will shoulder your burden?"

This question popped into my head while watching the final scenes and it struck me as relevant to achieving any of your goals, irrespective of them being fitness, money, ending back pain, shopping etc.... The main thing being do you have people around you that will help you carry the burden of what ever it is that you're trying to achieve?

I mean look at Samwise, sure he couldn't carry the ring itself but he could carry Frodo up mount doom to destroy the ring; he was willing to lave his home and life behind to support him; he was willing to risk life and limb to achieve Frodo's goal; he was willing to come back for him even after Frodo had told him to leave and to cap it all off that despite any turmoil, any heart ache and any hardship he stuck by his promise to Gandalf "He said to me don't you leave him Samwise Gamge and i promised him i wouldn't!"

This to me is why Samwise will always be a hero and it got me thinking about my life and friends, who have you got that can be your Samwise? What ever your goal in life be it ose 10lbs, change your figure, achieve that amazing bum and abs we all need a good suport network. People who when the going gets tough wil gently pick us up and remind us of our path and help us to stay the course.

So have a look around today at your support network; irrespective of the arena, do they help or hinder you? Be honest, and then take the appropriate action and be greatfull or take steps to correct it.

What about you, are you a Samwise or the ring of power? do you help your friends to achieve their dreams no matter what or do you gradually suck the life by demanding and not giving anything back? If so, can you correct it right here, right now?

This is especially important during the tough economic climate and looming recession, every business and every person needs a Samwise to help them and likewise to be a Samwise to someone else. Whatever your answers I hope you enjoy the reflective process and finding answers.

Till next time

Success In Business Or Your Life!

The ESSENTIAL Action You Must Take For Success

I've just got out of my weekly meeting at work in Islington London with my boss, where we spent 2 hours talking about how we can improve on the performance of the company.

This is a weekly ritual where we conduct a no-B.S 'autopsy' of the past week figure out what worked, what didn't and what needs to be improved upon. This is the most valuable 2 hours of the entire week, I can tell you.

Well, this week was no exception. In fact, I'd say it was one of the most important team meetings we've had in a long time because it contained a message that my team REALLY needed to hear and, in all likelihood, what most of my readers need to hear too.

The message was a reminder, an urging, no, a DEMAND that each and every member of my company remember what our business and what life is about.

A little background...

Over the last few weeks since the boss returned from a vacation he's been studying the team and how they conduct business.

They're all great coaches, very passionate, dedicated and hard working so I'm very fortunate to be one of them.

Unfortunately, in his absence we all picked up a habit that was harming us, the business and our attitude to life.

We started equating the time that we spent at work with how valuable their work was to the business. For example, whilst we all complete a 40 hour week of time AT work, much of that time was spent on activities that had zero effect on the growth and success of the company.

For example, lets say they performed 18 appointments and 5 hours of marketing activity. That's 23 hours. Add to that 4 hours of staff training and the team meeting and we're up to 27 hours of productive work.

That leaves 13 hours of non earning, non learning and non-productive time each and every week where they're reading emails, scouring the web, waiting for clients, chatting with colleagues and, to be blunt, wasting time.

13 hours.

That almost a third of a working week where we're failing to take action on the core imperative of business...

To find, acquire and keep clients.

In other words, to engage in the activities that add to the bottom line value of both the company and their own bank accounts.

This is the most essential activity for success, not just in personal training but in all business, hell even in life.

It's the only reason for the existence of ANY business and in life.

In fact, if you're not actively seeking, finding and keeping clients then you don't have a business at all. You have a part time job and one that can dry up at any time. Also if you're not doing things that find, acquire and keep you on track to your goals then it's NOT productive.

The thing is, most of us don't realise that we've substituted the important for the less important.

We confuse busy-ness with business and, in doing so, ruin any real chance of success.

Maybe YOU'RE doing this too? Believing that because
you've been busy all day that you've been productive?
That you're adding to the net worth of your company?
Are you contributing to your life?

If you are... stop it!

I mean it, stop it right away.

Get in the habit of stopping several times a day and asking yourself this simple, yet powerful question:

'Is what I'm doing either part of seeking, acquiring or keeping my self on track to my goals?'

If the answer is no, then quit it immediately (no matter how much importance you've attached to redesigning that workout template) and get to working on something that is.

Hardly rocket science, I know, but who said success has to be complicated, right?

Spend the next 7 days asking yourself the question and see for yourself what impact it makes on your life.

You'll be amazed!

To your success
